Chidimma Adetshina, the pageant hopeful who was forced to withdraw from Miss South Africa due to a nationality dispute, has been offered the opportunity to participate in Miss Universe Nigeria. In a video posted on her Instagram account, the 23-year-old expressed her excitement about taking part in Africa’s most prestigious beauty pageant. Adetshina withdrew from Miss South Africa this year after facing xenophobic backlash due to her Nigerian father and Mozambican mother, despite being a South African citizen. The Home Affairs department launched an investigation into her mother’s nationality, leading Adetshina to leave the competition for her family’s safety. Miss Universe Nigeria extended an invitation to Adetshina, offering her the chance to represent Nigeria on the international stage. As it stands, it is uncertain if Adetshina holds Nigerian nationality. The winner of Miss Universe Nigeria will go on to compete at the Miss Universe pageant. Meanwhile, South Africa’s Home Affairs department is continuing its investigation and considering potential legal action related to the alleged fraudulent activity regarding Adetshina’s citizenship. The Miss South Africa competition took place last Saturday, with Mia le Roux making history as the first deaf woman to win the crown. If Adetshina wins Miss Universe Nigeria, she will compete against le Roux at the Miss Universe competition in November.
